Vinayaka Chavithi celebrates the birth of Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles (Vighneshwara), worshipped first before any auspicious undertaking.

A clay idol is installed and worshipped at home with 21 kinds of leaves and sweets like undrallu and kudumulu, and is immersed after the puja and the Vinayaka Vrata Katha.

The puja is traditionally performed during madhyahna (midday), when the Chaturthi tithi prevails; the ekavimsati patra puja uses 21 sacred leaves, each offered with a different name of Ganesha. Listening to the Vinayaka Vrata Katha at the end is considered essential — it absolves the doshamu of seeing the moon on Chavithi night.

In Telugu states the celebration runs from home pujas to grand community mandapams; Kanipakam Varasiddhi Vinayaka temple holds its famous Brahmotsavams during these days, and immersion (nimajjanam) processions close the festival on Anantha Chaturdashi.

తెలుగు రాష్ట్రాలలో ఇంటి పూజల నుండి పెద్ద మండపాల వరకు వేడుకలు జరుగుతాయి; కాణిపాకం వరసిద్ధి వినాయక ఆలయంలో బ్రహ్మోత్సవాలు ఈ రోజులలోనే జరుగుతాయి. అనంత చతుర్దశి నాడు నిమజ్జనంతో పండుగ ముగుస్తుంది.
